Stand on the platform and perform the following stretching exercises:

  1. Reach both hands at the same time to the sky.
  2. Hands on the top, sides of the thigh pad for balance, perform a side bend to the right and then to the left.
  3. Follow with a twist to the right and then to the left.
  4. Follow with a shoulder shrug multiple times until tension is released.

These stretching exercises should be done slowly, while relaxing and implementing a good rhythmic breathing pattern. Relaxing and breathing correctly are very important throughout the entire program.

Step 2: After the previous stretching movements, perform the “Kellogg Stretch” for facet release

Facet Joints Glide Smoothly As You Move Your Spine. Locked Facets Irritate Your Nerves Causing Pain
Facet Joints Glide Smoothly As You Move Your Spine. Locked Facets Irritate Your Nerves Causing Pain

Facets are joints between vertebrae that glide smoothly as you move your spine. “Locked” facets may irritate the nerves and ligaments surrounding them, causing back and neck pain.

While standing on the platform reach over and grasp the upper handlebars with your abdomen pressing against the main pad with your head and shoulders facing downward.

Breathe out, lower your shoulders and head down-ward by relaxing your elbows out-word.

Pause for a very short time and feel a stretch in your lower back hamstrings and calves. Breathe in and raise your shoulders and head by drawing your elbows inward. Do 6 repetitions of the “Kellogg Stretch.

Step 3: Invert slowly on The Back Revolution® System for 1 minute and not more than 3 minutes

Inverting on The Back Revolution System is Easy, Safe, and Fun!
Inverting on The Back Revolution System is Easy, Safe, and Fun!

While standing on the platform, reach over and grasp the upper handlebars and then to the extension handlebars. This motion must be performed slowly while breathing outward while inverting and becoming completely relaxed and implementing good rhythmic breathing.

Assume the inverted position for 10 seconds and slowly revert to your original standing position.

Pause for 15 seconds and then dismount the Back Revolution and step off the platform.

You may increase the inverted position time limit realizing that studies have concluded that maximum decompression of the spine is achieved in a minimum of 60 seconds. One to three minutes are recommended, more than three minutes is counter-productive.

While in the inverted position, slowly arch (extension) your head upward, curl (flexion) your head inward and rotate your head clockwise then counter-clockwise. You may find these movements to be beneficial to the cervical region.

While in the inverted position you may perform strengthening exercises, these should be done slowly and at a time when you feel fully comfortable with inverting on the Back Revolution.

Do's And Don't of Your Back Revolution® System

"Safety First! Follow These Instructions To Safely Use Your Back Revolution® System"
Do This
  1. Do use The Back Revolution® Stick® to prepare (warm-up) your neck, back, hip and hamstring muscles for inversion. It is very important to never stretch a cold muscle. The Back Revolution® Stick is also very beneficial for other activities both before and after.
  2. Do The Kellogg Stretch for facet relief
  3. Do invert, stretch, decompress, exercise and revert slowly accompanied by moderately deep rhythmic breathing.
  4. Do extensions (arching), flexion (curling) rotational movements slowly with your head during inversion. This may relieve inflexible neck muscles.
  5. Do pause for 15 seconds or more upon reverting and standing. This is very important before you dismount The Back Revolution and step off the platform.
  6. Do inversion slowly without any distractions for optimal results.
Don't Do This
  1. Do not invert for more than 10 seconds initially. Learn to relax and breathe correctly. Studies have proven that maximum decompression of the spine is accomplished in a minimum of 60 seconds. Only 1 to 3 minutes is recommended after you become fully comfortable with inversion.
  2. Do not invert for more than 3 minutes at a time. More than 3 minutes is counterproductive.
  3. Do not allow clothing to lessen the full benefits of Inversion. Example: Shirts tucked into pants will decrease compression of the spine during inversion. Belt buckles decrease relaxation during inversion as well.
  4. Do not allow your hands or arms to rest on the floor during inversion.
  5. Do not invert immediately after exercising or eating.
  6. Do not invert if you have any medical conditions such as high blood pressure, middle ear infection, or eye disorders. Please consult your physician prior to using The Back Revolution System.
